Jaipur Kurti Brand Story: Nandani Creation, Prints and Fit
Jaipur Kurti is an Indian women's wear brand founded in Jaipur by Anuj and Vandana Mundhra under Nandani Creation. Its story, its prints, its sizes and how to wear it.

In short
- Jaipur Kurti was founded by Anuj and Vandana Mundhra, and the brand and its company, Nandani Creation, both date from 2012.
- Before the brand, Anuj Mundhra went from showroom helper to trading suit sets to running his own block and screen printing unit in Jaipur.
- Vandana Mundhra is the company's whole-time director, and its own presentation credits her with designing and developing the clothes.
- None of the Jaipur Kurti pieces here is described as hand block printed, so read a repeated floral motif as a block-style print unless the details say otherwise.
- The brand's chart lists body measurements, and its M fits a 35 in (89 cm) bust, about an inch smaller than the usual Indian M.
Jaipur Kurti is an Indian women's wear brand founded in Jaipur by Anuj and Vandana Mundhra. It belongs to their listed company, Nandani Creation Limited, and dates from 2012. It grew out of a small block and screen printing unit, and today makes everyday kurtas, kurta sets, sarees, ethnic dresses and bottoms.
This is the label for the set you actually wear: the cotton kurta that goes to the office on Tuesday and to your aunt's on Sunday. Here is where it came from, who runs it, what its prints really are, how its sizes behave and how to style it far from Rajasthan.
Who founded Jaipur Kurti, and how did it begin?
Anuj Mundhra started it, with Vandana Mundhra, after more than a decade in Jaipur's clothing trade. The brand tells the story itself on its Meet the Founder page. Around 2001 he was a helper in a saree showroom, on a wage he could not support a family on, so he quit.
He began buying suit sets and selling them on to shopkeepers, working around very little money and a lot of legwork. Once a little income came in, he opened his own block and screen printing unit in Jaipur. That detail matters: this brand started with a man who printed cloth, not with a fashion investor.
The turn came in 2012. By the brand's account he was at a Delhi Metro station when he saw huge billboards for online shopping sites and decided that was where clothes were heading. Back in Jaipur he asked a chartered accountant how to form a company, and incorporated Nandani Creation with a small sum from close friends, followed later by a loan.
The early years were hard. Online shopping was still small in India, returns ran high, and the makers he approached would not let their clothes go online because buyers were used to touching the fabric first. So he built his own unit, from design through stitching. That is why the company describes itself as the maker of what it sells, with its facility in Jaipur.
Who owns Jaipur Kurti, and who is behind it today?
Nandani Creation Limited owns Jaipur Kurti, and Anuj and Vandana Mundhra are the promoters who founded and still lead it. The company is listed on the National Stock Exchange of India, so its filings are public, and much of what follows comes from them.
- Anuj Mundhra is chairman and managing director. The company calls him a first-generation entrepreneur and the front face of the business.
- Vandana Mundhra is whole-time director. The company's 2022-23 presentation says she plays a crucial role in designing and developing the products, with 16-plus years in textiles at that point.
- The family inspiration is stated openly: the brand says the women of the founder's family were a constant inspiration to him.
The presentation also carries the brand's line in Hindi, "Mere Dil Se Closet Tak", which means from my heart to your closet. Sentimental, but it suits a label built around clothes for ordinary days.

Are Jaipur Kurti kurtas really block printed?
Not as far as the details here tell you: none of this brand's pieces on TiaBow uses the words block print, and they simply say printed. So enjoy the look, and do not assume the method.
Block printing means stamping dye onto cloth by hand with a carved block, repeat after repeat. Sanganer and Bagru, two towns just outside Jaipur, are the names to know. The founder's own first unit did block and screen work, and the brand's taste still shows it: small flowers in tidy rows, called booti, and borders that frame the hem.
One honest wrinkle: a brand note on some of its plain trousers and palazzos says its products are hand dyed, printed and handworked, so shade and print can vary slightly. It is a blanket line, not a promise about one kurta's technique.
| What to check | Hand block | Screen or machine print |
|---|---|---|
| Where repeats meet | Small gaps or overlaps | Lines up exactly |
| Edges of the motif | Slightly soft | Crisp |
| Back of the fabric | Dye shows through well | Often paler, sitting on the surface |
| Colour across the piece | Gentle variation | Very even |
No single test settles it, so put them together, and if hand work matters to you, look for a label that names the method.
The Jaipur print look: repeating flowers and framed borders
Each is described as printed. Check the fabric line for what the kurta, bottoms and dupatta are made of.

The piece that sums up the style
A long mustard kurta in pure cotton, covered in rows of flower motifs and worn over a printed skirt. It carries gotta patti, the gold ribbon appliqué Rajasthan is known for, and it is hand wash.
- The length and the skirt make it read dressier than cotton usually does
- Works for a mehendi or a Diwali party at home
- The skirt buttons at a partly elastic waist
What does Jaipur Kurti make?
It makes women's Indian wear for daily, office and festive dressing, and it is a separates brand as much as a set brand. In 2022-23 kurtis, kurtas and tops were 38% of sales, sets 33% and bottoms 29%. That last figure surprises people, and it explains why so many plain trousers carry the name.
| What | What it is like | Reach for it when |
|---|---|---|
| Kurta sets | Mostly cotton, printed or embroidered, often with a dupatta | You want an outfit decided in one go |
| Single kurtas | Straight and A-line, mostly cotton | You already own trousers or jeans |
| Trousers and palazzos | Plain cotton with easy waistbands | A printed kurta needs a quiet partner |
| Ethnic dresses | Midi and tiered shapes, often viscose rayon | You want no styling at all |
| Sarees | Cotton, tussar silk, net and georgette | It is a party or family function |
New to the three-piece format? Our guide to what a kurta set is covers each part. The company also runs sister labels, Amaiva and Desi Fusion, so check the tag if you are matching a piece you already own.
Everyday kurta sets
Pure cotton kurtas for work, errands and family lunches. Several of these say dry clean, so read the care line first.
Dressier sets for festive evenings
Angrakha means a wrap-front kurta tied at the side. Mirror work is tiny mirrors stitched into the cloth.
The one for Diwali
A chanderi silk kurta with zari detail, trousers in silk crepe and a net dupatta. Chanderi is a light, faintly sheer weave named after its town in Madhya Pradesh, and zari is metallic thread. More on both in our silk and zari guide.
- Far lighter than heavy festive embroidery
- Elastic-waist trousers, so it is easy for a long evening
- Dry clean, as you would expect from silk
How does Jaipur Kurti sizing run?
Its chart runs a little small against the usual Indian scale: size M fits a 35 in (89 cm) bust, where many Indian charts say 36 in. The brand states that these are body measurements, so measure yourself and read straight across.
| Size | Bust | Waist | Hip |
|---|---|---|---|
| XS | 31 in (79 cm) | 28 in (71 cm) | 33 in (84 cm) |
| S | 33 in (84 cm) | 30 in (76 cm) | 35 in (89 cm) |
| M | 35 in (89 cm) | 32 in (81 cm) | 37 in (94 cm) |
| L | 37 in (94 cm) | 34 in (86 cm) | 39 in (99 cm) |
| XL | 39 in (99 cm) | 37 in (94 cm) | 43 in (109 cm) |
| 2XL | 41 in (104 cm) | 39 in (99 cm) | 45 in (114 cm) |
| 3XL | 43 in (109 cm) | 41 in (104 cm) | 47 in (119 cm) |
| 4XL | 45 in (114 cm) | 43 in (109 cm) | 49 in (124 cm) |
Our Indian size chart for women maps a 36 in bust to a US 8 or UK 12. On this brand that lands between M and L, so it is worth a second look before you pick. Four things to know:
- Body and garment are different numbers. The charts on pieces here give the finished garment: a typical set in M measures 38 in (97 cm) at the bust, roughly 3 in (8 cm) of room over the brand's body figure.
- Between sizes? The brand's own example: at a 32 in bust, take S for a relaxed fit and XS otherwise.
- Check the length. Sets here are usually 46 in (117 cm) long and single kurtas 44 in (112 cm), but they range from about 35 to 52 in (89 to 132 cm). Models are 5 ft 8 in (173 cm).
- Bigger sizes are patchier. The brand's chart goes to 6XL, but most pieces here stop at XXL and only a few reach 3XL or 4XL.
How do you wear Jaipur Kurti outside India?
Wear it as you would a printed shirt dress: let one piece carry the pattern and keep the rest plain. These are cotton-first clothes, so they suit real weather and real days better than occasion wear does.
- Office: a straight single kurta, plain trousers, loafers or block heels. Skip the dupatta entirely.
- Brunch: a printed kurta over white jeans with flat sandals and one good pair of earrings.
- Winter: a straight kurta under a long wool coat with ankle boots. A thin thermal under cotton is invisible.
- Home Diwali or a mehendi: a short kurta with a sharara, which is a flared, tiered trouser, or anything with gotta and mirror work. Add a jutti, the flat embroidered Indian shoe.
- Family function as a guest: go to chanderi or a silk saree. For flared shapes, our anarkali styling guide has the dupatta and jewellery rules.
Single kurtas that work with what you own
Start with these if you would rather mix than wear a full set.
The easiest one to live with
A blue and white striped kurta in yarn-dyed cotton, with a mandarin collar, short sleeves and side pockets. It says machine wash, which is the exception in this range, so it is the one to choose if hand washing will not happen.
- Reads like a long shirt with jeans or trousers
- Pockets, which many kurtas lack
Dresses, sarees and quiet bottoms
The rest of the wardrobe: no-effort dresses, printed sarees and plain trousers that calm down a loud kurta.

Is Jaipur Kurti a good brand?
It is a good pick for easy printed cotton you will wear often, and a weaker pick if you want documented hand block work or heavy occasion embroidery. Its own About page leans on being pocket-friendly and versatile, and that is the honest way to judge it. Every product card here shows that item's own rating, which tells you more than a brand-wide verdict.
- Follow each care line, because they differ. Most pieces are hand wash, but some sets say dry clean, including a few in pure cotton.
- Wash deep colours alone the first time. Some pieces warn that the colour may bleed slightly.
- Expect small variation. The brand itself warns of slight differences in shade and print on some pieces.
- Check pale cotton. White and pastel cotton can show through on any label, so plan on a slip if the fabric looks light.
Questions people ask
Who owns Jaipur Kurti?
Nandani Creation Limited, a company based in Jaipur and listed on the National Stock Exchange of India. Anuj Mundhra is its chairman and managing director, and Vandana Mundhra is its whole-time director. The two are the company's promoters.
Who is the founder of Jaipur Kurti?
The brand names Anuj and Vandana Mundhra as its founders. Anuj began as a helper in a Jaipur saree showroom around 2001, traded suit sets, opened a block and screen printing unit, then formed the company in 2012.
Is Jaipur Kurti hand block printed?
The details on its pieces here say printed and never mention hand block. The founder did run a block and screen printing unit, and the brand's prints often have a block-style look. If the method matters to you, check the print up close, because a block-style pattern is not proof of hand printing.
Does Jaipur Kurti only make kurtis?
No. Despite the name it also makes kurta sets, sarees, ethnic dresses, palazzos and trousers. In 2022-23 bottoms alone made up 29% of its sales.
What size should I buy in Jaipur Kurti?
Measure your bust and match it to the brand's body chart, where S fits 33 in (84 cm), M fits 35 in (89 cm) and L fits 37 in (94 cm). That runs about an inch smaller than many Indian charts. If you are between sizes, go up for a relaxed fit.
How do you wash a Jaipur Kurti kurta set?
Follow the care line on the piece, since it varies. Most cotton pieces are hand wash, while silk sets and even a few pure cotton ones say dry clean. Wash strong colours alone the first time.
